A camera mounted on a captured German V-2 rocket, launched by American scientists from White Sands, New Mexico, took the first photograph of Earth from space on October 24, 1946, from an altitude of about 105 km — decades before any satellite or human spaceflight, using salvaged German wartime rocket technology.
The German V-2 test rocket MW 18014, launched from Peenemünde on 20 June 1944, reached an apogee of about 176 km, making it the first human-made object to cross the Kármán line into outer space.
